Brent Saucerman, Voyageur Canoe Training Program Course Director, invites you to join other scouts and non-scouter on a course unique in Scouting. It consists of a two weekend course that teach the basics of Canoeing and Wilderness Canoe Trip Planning.
It's an excellent course for Troop and Crew leaders who want to up their unit's high adventure offerings, for crew leaders headed to the Boundary Waters or other wilderness canoeing areas, or adult leaders who just want to improve their skills and help teach their Scouts canoeing.
This course is also the designated Crossroads course to earn Paddle Craft Safety.
The course was originally founded in the '60s in response to the unfortunate death of a Council Scout in what is now known as the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. The Scout's family and area Scouters formed Voyageur to reduce the likelihood that another Scout would be seriously injured while on a canoe trip.
This year's course for adults is two weekends, with an optional Kayak training day:
- May 1-2
- May 15-16
- May 22 (optional Kayak training day)
This is for volunteer Scouters or adults from the general public.
